The collective started as a set of ideas written in notebooks and various concept documents since 2017, which themselves emerged from numerous discussions and brainstorming sessions had by the founder, with entrepreneurs, academics, educators, business professionals and students. Much research during these 5 years, coupled with the founder’s experiences across international development, education, tourism, workforce development and sales solidified this unmet stumbling block and clear need. As black people, or persons of African descent, our ignorance of our shared problems, advantages, and thick bonds despite centuries of dislocation, erasure, and fracture, prevent us from reaping the benefits of a common identity; our patent reticence to collaborate is borne out of a deep distrust of each other fostered by the colonial project and still fed by institutional racism (modern mass media is a prominent example). By late 2022 the broad vision was distilled and formalized with a value proposition around significantly reducing barriers to and creating tangible incentives for collaboration amongst us via promoting webs of trust and understanding (social and knowledge capital).
